It’s normal to feel nervous when you’re trying something new, or getting back into an activity after a break. You’re not alone – lots of people feel this way. It starts with one step

Whatever your ability level, there’s something to suit everyone – from chair exercises and gentle walks, to dance classes and gym sessions. Getting active can look different for each of us, and you don’t need to compare where you are to what other people are doing.

🏆 Small wins count!

Moved your body today? That’s a win. Got dressed and stretched your arms? That’s a win too.

🗺️ Getting more active is a journey.

Every journey starts with one step. For some of us, simply getting out of our chair independently is a win, while other people may have to overcome social anxiety when joining a new class.

✨ Start out with what feels ok to you

If you’re feeling nervous, getting active at home can be a really good way to build your confidence and strength.

Be kind to yourself

It’s important to celebrate your achievements – small amounts of movement make a difference. Remember, it takes time to build your strength and balance. You’ll have days where you feel less confident than others, but as long as you keep moving consistently you’ll be able to do more each time!

The more you move, the easier it gets

Getting started can feel daunting. But the good news is, the more active you are, the easier it gets! Once you start moving your body regularly, you naturally start to feel healthier and happier. As you build fitness and stamina, day to day tasks will become easier, you’ll have more energy and you’ll find it easier to move around.

It’s a bit like the chicken and the egg! The more you move, the more energy you’ll have!

Remember, activity isn’t just about going to the gym or for a 10km run! You can create a routine that suits you, your body and your unique needs.
